United States Holocaust Memorial Museum

If you know even a little about the Holocaust, then you know it is one of the most painful and heartbreaking histories humanity has ever lived through. Visiting this museum in Washington, D.C. was a deeply moving experience. These photographs carry more history, pain, and memory than I could ever fully describe.

“We are the shoes, we are the last witnesses.
We are shoes from grandchildren and grandfathers
From Prague, Paris and Amsterdam,
And because we are only made of fabric and leather
And not of blood and flesh,
Each one of us avoided the hellfire”
             — Moses Schulstein (1911–1981), Yiddish poet
